Descripción:
4-Methylphenyl)(2-thienyl)methanone (MTB) is a carbamate antibacterial agent. MTB inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the production of proteins that are vital for cell division. It is used in the treatment of infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The ester form of this compound displays antibacterial activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, but not against methicillin sensitive strains. The hydrazide form has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in Gram-positive bacteria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
