1-[(4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl]piperidin-4-one is an epoxidizing agent that has been shown to have insecticidal activity. It is selective for spirocyclic compounds and stereoselective, which means it can be used to selectively oxidize one of the two hydroxyl groups in a molecule. This chemical can also be used to synthesize phosphites, silicon compounds, and boron trifluoride etherate. The use of 1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]piperidin-4-one may be potentially useful in cancer therapy because it inhibits the synthesis of DNA and protein.
