1-Methoxy-4-(sulfinylmethylamino)benzene is a diazonium salt that reacts with pyridine to form the corresponding 1,2,4-triazole. This reaction can be catalyzed by bases or metal salts. The reaction is an example of nucleophilic substitution and is used for research purposes. The 1-methoxy group on the benzene ring makes this compound more polar than 4-(sulfinylmethylamino)benzene and the shift in its spectrum is different. Substituent effects are observed in the electron density at the sulfur atom, which has a positive charge when it binds to an electron pair. An increased electron density leads to an increased polarizability and shift in the spectrum of this compound.
