2-[(4-Methoxyphenoxy)methyl]oxirane is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of epoxides. It has been shown to be an effective antiviral agent against the bacterium Typhimurium, which causes typhoid fever. The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of viral DNA synthesis by binding to the virus and inhibiting the enzyme syncytial ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase. 2-[(4-Methoxyphenoxy)methyl]oxirane also has antiviral properties against human liver cells and is an initiator for polymerization reactions. This chemical compound is stable at high temperatures and can be used in organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone.
