Descripción

1-Methyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine (MPP) is a bifunctional molecule and can be used as a cancer therapeutic agent. MPP is able to inhibit tumor growth and induce apoptosis in tumor cells, but has little effect on normal tissue. MPP is also a potential antitumor agent because it can inhibit the uptake of cisplatin in human carcinoma cells without affecting its uptake in normal cells. In vivo studies have shown that MPP inhibits transplatin-induced antitumor activity, which may be due to the ability of the cisplatin to bind to DNA and form DNA adducts. The mechanism of action for MPP's antitumor effects is not yet fully understood.
