2-(Methylamino)acetonitrile hydrochloride is a chemical compound that is structurally related to the amides and contains two hydroxy groups. It has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and IL-6. It also inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity. 2-(Methylamino)acetonitrile hydrochloride has been shown to have antiinflammatory and antiarthritic properties in a number of animal models of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, and collagen-induced arthritis.
