2-Methyldecane is a nonionic surfactant that is used in detergent compositions. It has been shown to be effective as a skin cancer treatment and as an antimicrobial agent. 2-Methyldecane has been shown to have strong antifungal properties against dermatophytes, yeasts, and Gram-positive bacteria. The antimicrobial activity of 2-methyldecane may be due to its hydroxyl group that can act as a cross-linking agent or by its ability to form cationic ion pairs with anionic bacterial cell surfaces.
