(R)-4-Methyloxazolidine-2,5-dione is a cytotoxic drug that has been synthesized for use in cancer research. It is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the growth of fibroblast cells and has been shown to have antibacterial and antifungal effects on certain strains of bacteria. This compound also inhibits protein synthesis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme alanine racemase. (R)-4-Methyloxazolidine-2,5-dione has IC50 values of 0.6 µg/mL for MRC-5 cells and 1.0 µg/mL for mouse fibroblasts.
