5-Methoxypyrimidin-4-amine is a thione that can be synthesized from an amide and a heterocycle. It is used in the coordination chemistry of metal complexes. 5-Methoxypyrimidin-4-amine has been shown to be hepatoprotective, which may be due to its ability to reduce oxidative stress and increase the level of antioxidants such as glutathione in the liver. This drug also has substitutions that are nucleophilic and have been shown to be able to undergo substitution reactions with amide groups. 5-Methoxypyrimidin-4-amine is also used as an intermediate for other drugs, including substituted pyrimidines and pyridine derivatives.
