Descripción:
5-Methoxy-3-methyl-5-oxopentanoic acid is a carboxylic acid that belongs to the fatty acids. It is an intermediate in the metabolism of fatty acids and can be synthesized by the decarboxylation of methylglutarate. 5-Methoxy-3-methyl-5-oxopentanoic acid is produced from the hydrolysis of malic enzyme and catalyzed by hydrochloric acid, which converts it into 5-hydroxyvaleric acid. It also has been shown to inhibit streptococcus faecalis growth when present at concentrations as low as 0.1%.
