Methyl 3,5-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoate is an antiviral agent that inhibits the replication of the influenza virus. It has been shown to be active against other viruses such as herpes and vaccinia. Methyl 3,5-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoate prevents the formation of a protein coat around the virus and inhibits viral RNA synthesis by interacting with viral enzymes. The drug is also toxic for mice, so care should be taken when handling this compound.
