Methyl cedrylketone is a fragrance chemical that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties. It is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other fragrances and as a stabilizer in fragrances. Methyl cedrylketone inhibits the growth of bacteria by acting as a surfactant, which disrupts the surface tension of water and allows it to penetrate into spaces between the bacterial cells. This agent also acts as an emulsifier, which reduces the interfacial tension between oil and water phases in an emulsion, thereby destabilizing the structure of bacterial cells.
