5-Methoxy-2-formylphenylboronic acid is a potent inhibitor of protein tyrosine kinases with an IC50 value of 0.3 μM. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells and is used to treat leukemia. This drug is a member of the family of protein tyrosine kinases, which are enzymes that regulate cell growth and differentiation. 5-Methoxy-2-formylphenylboronic acid binds to the ATP binding site on these enzymes and blocks the transfer of phosphate from ATP to the substrate. This prevents phosphorylation, which in turn prevents activation of downstream signaling pathways that promote cell division and tumor growth.
