2-Methoxy-6-nitrobenzaldehyde is a nitro, aldehyde and substituted benzaldehyde. It is used in the synthesis of other aromatic compounds as well as for labeling reactions with electron-rich substrates. The methoxy group reacts with electron-poor substrates to form an alkylating agent. The reaction time can be controlled by adjusting the temperature or concentration of reactants. This reaction yields are not high because of the slow rate of substitution at the nitro group. 2-Methoxy-6-nitrobenzaldehyde can be used to synthesize 2,4,5,6-tetrafluoroquinoxaline through nucleophilic substitution at its nitro group.
