(Z)-(Methoxycarbonylmethoxyimino)-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetic acid (MTTA) is an organic compound that is a byproduct of cefixime production. MTTA is an environmental pollutant and can be found in a variety of industrial settings, including the catalytic transfer of methylene chloride to nitrosated methyl acetate. This chemical can also be used as a catalyst for the hydrolysis of thiourea. The methyl esters are then removed via transesterification with methanol, which produces methylene chloride as a byproduct. MTTA has been shown to promote the transfer of carboxylic acids from one phase to another when mixed with water or alcohols.
