3-Methoxybenzyltriphenylphosphoniumchloride is a synthetic, water-soluble molecule that has been shown to be tumorigenic in mice. It is used as a reagent for the formation of conjugates with salicylic acid, which are hydrolyzed by enzymes within cells. This compound also undergoes a cross-coupling reaction with hexacyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to form reactive epoxides that can be converted into anti-tumor agents. 3-Methoxybenzyltriphenylphosphoniumchloride is also used in the synthesis of sarpogrelate hydrochloride, an antiplatelet drug that inhibits platelet aggregation and thrombus formation.
