6-Methoxy-N-ethylquinoliniumiodide (6MEQ) is a small molecule that is structurally different from quinolones. It has been shown to have the ability to bind to surface glycoproteins and up-regulate genes, such as lymphocyte transformation and intracellular calcium concentration. 6MEQ has also been shown to have significant interactions with other drugs, including cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity and fatty acids. 6MEQ can be used for treatment of polyunsaturated fatty acid deficiencies in patients with congestive heart failure.
