2-(2-Methyl-5-nitro-1-imidazole)ethyl methanesulfonate (2MNE) is a versatile synthetic intermediate. It can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and building blocks for chemical synthesis. 2MNE has been shown to have conformational flexibility that allows it to exist in different orientations. The nitro group on 2MNE can form hydrogen bonds with other functional groups, which may affect its conformation.
