Methyl 3-methoxy-5-methylbenzoate is a cytotoxic compound that inhibits the tyrosine kinase domain of protein tyrosine kinases. It has been shown to inhibit cell growth and induce apoptosis in cancer cells. Methyl 3-methoxy-5-methylbenzoate has a potent anticancer activity, with an IC50 value of 0.1 µM against human cancer cell lines in vitro. This compound also exhibits strong antiproliferative activity in vivo, as it reduces tumor weight and volume when administered to mice bearing human colon carcinoma xenografts. Methyl 3-methoxy-5-methylbenzoate is synthesized from 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenylacetic acid and methyl iodide by reaction with sodium hydroxide. The pyridine ring of this compound binds to the ATP binding site on the protein tyrosine kinase enzyme and blocks ATP binding
