Methyl benzo[d]oxazole-2-carboxylate (MBOC) is a functional group that is used as an antimicrobial agent in polymerization initiators. It has been shown to function as a polymerization initiator for the production of fluorinated polymers. MBOC has been shown to be reactive with hydroxyl groups and is capable of forming disulfide bonds with itself or other thiols. This chemical can also cause radiation and chemical structures to be formed, which are useful for electrophotographic applications. MBOC also functions as an acid catalyst in glycol esters and monomers, which makes it useful in the production of film products such as photoresists
