Makisterone A is a natural compound that has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of protein, RNA and DNA in cells. It has been shown to inhibit follicular growth in mice by acting on the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Makisterone A binds to receptors in the brain and blocks hormone release. This results in decreased levels of estrogen, which leads to decreased follicular growth. Makisterone A also inhibits transcriptional regulation at different levels, including inhibition of histone deacetylase activity and blocking of nuclear factor-κB.
