N-Methyltyramine HCl is a potent inhibitor of lung fibroblast proliferation. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of lung fibroblasts in vivo and in vitro for both adult and fetal bovine. N-Methyltyramine HCl inhibits the production of collagen, which is an important component of connective tissue. Collagen is also a major component of lung tissue, which may be why this drug has an inhibitory effect on lung fibroblast proliferation. N-Methyltyramine HCl also blocks the activation and synthesis of growth factor-β1, which is necessary for cell division. This inhibition leads to decreased cell growth.
