2-Methylbenzenesulfonic acid hydrate (2MBSA) is a derivative of pyrimidine compound that has been used as a diagnostic agent. 2MBSA binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor and inhibits its activity, which may be related to cancer treatment. Hydrogen bonding between 2MBSA and the amino acid lysine residues in the receptor is believed to be the cause of this inhibition. 2MBSA also has potential as a drug target for treating metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes mellitus Type II.
