Descripción

Epsilon-momfluorothrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide that has been postulated to act as an agonist of the androstane receptor. It is used in agricultural, home, and garden pest control, but is also found in dietary supplements for weight loss. Epsilon-momfluorothrin exhibits a high toxicity to mammals, although it does not cause any adverse effects in rats. This compound binds to the androstane receptor in many tissues, including the brain and prostate gland. The binding of this molecule to the androstane receptor activates transcription of genes involved in lipid metabolism such as hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type II (HSD-II) and 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3βHSD).
