This drug also inhibits the growth of influenza virus in cell culture. 2-((4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl)ethanamide is a sensor for chloride ions, which may be used as treatments for bacterial infections. This drug is also able to inhibit the replication of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics, such as penicillin. The unsaturated alkyl group on this molecule allows it to be activated by radiation treatment, which may be useful in the treatment of cancer cells or viral infections.
