4-Methoxy-3-methyl-4-oxobutanoic acid is an organic compound that belongs to the group of alkylaryl compounds. It is an enantioselective hydrogenation catalyst, which can be used in the synthesis of optically active esters. 4-Methoxy-3-methyl-4-oxobutanoic acid has been shown to be a ligand for copper complexes and is often used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other ester compounds. The succinic acid formed by the condensation of 4-methoxy-3-methylbutanoic acid with glycol can also be hydrogenated to form 3,4,5,6 tetrahydrobenzo[b]furan.
