Descripción:9-Mercapto-1-nonanol is a small molecule that has been shown to induce epidermal growth factor (EGF) synthesis. It also inhibits the production of 3-mercaptopropionic acid, which is a byproduct of the metabolism of cysteine. 9-Mercapto-1-nonanol has an optimum concentration of 0.5 mM and is active in the presence of 2 mM ethyl diazoacetate. The compound has been used in diagnostic tests for cancer cells and as a growth factor for human skin cells. 9-Mercapto-1-nonanol is able to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity, which may be its mechanism of action against cancer cells.
