The enzyme activities that are responsible for this reaction are as follows: carboxylase, dehydrogenase, and reductase. Cis, cis-muconic acid has been shown to have solubility data that can be used to optimize its production process. Thermodynamic data and kinetic data have also been collected on cis, cis-muconic acid. In addition to being reactive with methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), it has been shown to react with coli K-12 cells in vitro.
