Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits protein kinase and prevents cell proliferation. It has been shown to be effective in treating neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, by preventing the formation of amyloid-beta protein deposits in brain cells. Minocycline binds to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. Minocycline also has antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
