Methyl 3-[2-thienyl)propenoate is an electrophilic compound that undergoes desulfurization reactions with the help of a shift, leading to a decrease in the number of double bonds. This reaction is facilitated by irradiation and long-chain molecules that are present in the molecule. Methyl 3-[2-thienyl)propenoate has been shown to be effective against arthritis, yielding high yields when optimised. It has also been used as a synthetic intermediate for compounds such as methyl cinnamate.
