Methyl methanethiosulfonate is a chemical compound that binds to DNA and inhibits the enzyme activities of dinucleotide phosphate. This inhibition leads to cell death by preventing DNA replication and transcription. The reaction mechanism of methyl methanethiosulfonate is not well understood, but it has been shown to bind to the Ryanodine receptor in vitro. It also inhibits the activity of cyclase enzymes, which are involved in the production of cAMP molecules, which regulate processes such as protein synthesis and cell division. Methyl methanethiosulfonate has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of tetracycline resistance in bacteria, as well as radiation-induced mutations. In addition, methyl methanethiosulfonate has been used as a model molecule for studying chemical biology and protein-DNA interactions.
