5-Methyl-2-hex-2-enoic acid ethyl ester is a dichloromethane extract of the leaves of the Acacia tree. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis, as a solvent for nitromethane, and as an extraction agent. 5-Methyl-2-hex-2-enoic acid ethyl ester can be used to produce pregabalin, which is used to treat epilepsy and neuropathic pain. 5-Methyl-2-hex-2-enoic acid ethyl ester also has nucleophilic properties that make it useful in organic synthesis.
