2-Methyl-5-nitroimidazole, also known as menidazole, is an impurity of metronidazole, which is used as an antibacterial and antiprotozoal medication in the treatment of infections, including rosacea. 2-Methyl-5-nitroimidazole is a derivative of nitroimidazole and has potential antimicrobial and antitrichomonal activities. Its synthesis can be achieved using various methods, including nucleophilic reaction, ester derivatives, reaction with metronidazole, and substitution reactions.
