Descripción:1-Methyl biguanide hemisulfate monohydrate is an antidiabetic drug that belongs to the class of biguanides. It is a metformin prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to produce metformin, its active form. 1-Methyl biguanide hemisulfate monohydrate has been shown to decrease blood sugar levels in diabetic patients by inhibiting gluconeogenesis and increasing the uptake of glucose into cells. 1-Methyl biguanide hemisulfate monohydrate also has two modes of action: it abolishes insulin resistance and increases cellular uptake of insulin, leading to increased activity of insulin receptors on cell membranes and increased epidermal growth factor (EGF) production.
