3'-O-Methylcatechin is a flavan-3-ol that is present in the leaves, flowers, and fruits of plants. It can be found in high concentrations in tea leaves, apples, and grapes. 3'-O-Methylcatechin has been shown to have antioxidant properties. This antioxidant is a potent inhibitor of lipid peroxidation due to its redox potential. The procyanidins from which it derives are also potent antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties. 3'-O-Methylcatechin may also have some therapeutic value for heart disease and cancer prevention via its ability to inhibit oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.
