The production of these compounds is catalyzed by the addition of acidic solid catalyst, such as hydrochloric acid, to the reaction vessel. This reaction can be used to produce 3-(2-methylpropyl)pentanedioic acid in high yields. It can also be used in the synthesis of amide products and other reactions involving acylation reactions.
