1-Methyl-6-nitro-1H-indazole is a triethyloxonium cation with substructures that are important for its anti-leishmanial activity. The molecule is hydrophobic and has a statistically significant effect on endpoints in vitro. It has been shown to be an efficient inhibitor of Leishmania amazonensis, which causes leishmaniasis. This compound also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful in the treatment of cancer. 1-Methyl-6-nitro-1H-indazole was synthesized by reacting methyl iodide with nitrobenzene, followed by reduction with sodium borohydride. Crystal x ray diffraction techniques and heterogeneous phase studies were used to characterize this compound.
