Descripción:Medroxyprogesterone is a progestin that has been used in the treatment of endometriosis, premenstrual syndrome, and other medical conditions. It is also used as a contraceptive or to treat abnormal uterine bleeding. Medroxyprogesterone acetate has been shown to inhibit nitrite ion formation in the rat bowel disease model and to have a direct effect on the ovaries. This drug has also been found to increase enzyme activities related to cellular transformation. Medroxyprogesterone acetate is available in combination with nomegestrol acetate (NOMAC) for use as an oral contraceptive medication. The oral bioavailability of medroxyprogesterone acetate is increased by NOMAC, which acts as an inhibitor of first-pass metabolism in the liver.
