It is used in vitro assays to study glycosidic bonds and site-specific reactions. 2-Mesitylensulfonyl chloride has been shown to inhibit autoimmune diseases, cancer, and inflammatory processes. The hydroxyl group at the 2 position of the molecule makes it hydrophobic, which may be one of the reasons for its low solubility in water.
