2-Methoxypyrazine is a growth factor that binds to the receptor for platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), which is a potent mitogenic agent. 2-Methoxypyrazine has been shown to cause vasoconstriction, which may be due to its ability to inhibit platelet aggregation. 2-Methoxypyrazine has also been found to interact with light exposure and other factors, such as monoclonal antibodies, anti-platelet agents, and LC-MS/MS methods. It can be synthesized by reacting phenylacetic acid with nitroethane in the presence of sodium methoxide in methanol or ethanol. The detection sensitivity of this compound can be enhanced through the use of solid phase microextraction (SPME) and chemical ionization.
