D(+)-Methioninol is a water-soluble vitamin that has been shown to be cyclized and intramolecularly hydroxylated to 2'- and 3'-hydroxy-3'-methioninols, respectively. It is found in many different foods, including meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, and dairy products. Methioninol is also soluble in organic solvents such as acetone, ethanol and ether. D(+)-Methioninol is stabilized by metal complexes with copper ions or other transition metals such as iron. This metal complex is also used in radiopharmaceuticals for the detection of inflammation.
