The hydroxyl group is present in the form of ether linkages with other molecules to form a particle. This substance has been shown to have surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopic properties and can be used to examine the molecular electrostatic potentials of surfaces. 3-Methoxybenzenethiol has a molecular weight of 142 g/mol, which makes it soluble in organic solvents such as diethyl succinate.
