(-)-Myrtenal is a type of skeleton that contains an amine group. The amine group has a nucleophilic attack, which is the tendency to donate electrons to other molecules in order to form bonds. (-)-Myrtenal's gamma-aminobutyric acid is enantiopure and it can be used as a substrate for the synthesis of imines. (-)-Myrtenal is also important for human neurons because it can be synthesized into neuron-specific nucleophiles that are important for neuronal function. In addition, (-)-myrtral has been shown to have anticancer activity in human cancer cells and may work by inhibiting DNA synthesis.
