The reaction product is generated from the reaction of the halide with benzoate and light, which leads to an emission spectrum in the visible region. Methyl 2-bromobenzoate has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for Friedel-Crafts reactions, and it's pharmacokinetic properties have been studied in rats.Methyl 2-bromobenzoate can also be used as a solid catalyst for the synthesis of bicyclic heterocycles.
