Methyl 3-(chloromethyl)benzoate is an aliphatic compound that is used as a synthetic intermediate in the production of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. It is synthesized by the reaction of 3-chloromethylaniline with methyl chloroformate. Methyl 3-(chloromethyl)benzoate is an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds, such as diazepam, which is a benzodiazepine drug. This compound has been shown to be a vasodilator, and may also have anti-inflammatory properties.
