It is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 86°C and a boiling point of 240°C at 1 mmHg. 3-Methoxybenzoic acid can be found in plants such as cranberries and strawberries. It also occurs naturally in animal fat, where it functions as an antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. 3-Methoxybenzoic acid has been shown to have synergistic effects when combined with protocatechuic acid in the treatment of carcinoma cells.
