• Descripción: Methyl 3-hydroxy-4-methylbenzoate (HMBA) is a metabolite of the anti-cancer drug methotrexate. HMBA has shown an inhibitory effect on acid phosphatase and on the growth of cancer cells. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect, which may be due to its ability to inhibit enzyme extracts from inflammatory diseases such as arthritis or asthma. HMBA has been shown to have a pharmacokinetic profile in vivo, which has been demonstrated by using SW620 cells. This compound is also able to cross the blood brain barrier and accumulate in cancerous tumors.
