Methyl 2-chlorophenylacetate is a reductase that has been shown to be an efficient inhibitor of the enzyme clopidogrel. It also has enantioselective properties, which means it can discriminate between left- and right-handed molecules. This property is beneficial as it can be used to synthesize only one form of a molecule. Methyl 2-chlorophenylacetate is a carbonyl reductase that has been shown to reduce the carbonyl group in clopidogrel, which makes the drug more effective by making it easier for platelets to bind with the drug. Methyl 2-chlorophenylacetate can be recombinantly produced in E. coli and provides an efficient method for producing this compound in large quantities.
