Methyclothiazide is a diuretic that is used to treat congestive heart failure and high blood pressure in the elderly. It has been shown to be effective in controlling edema caused by chronic renal disease, liver cirrhosis, or heart failure. Methyclothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that inhibits enzymes involved in the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions in the early distal convoluted tubule of the kidney. Methyclothiazide has also been shown to have protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitory activity, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory effects.
