7-Methoxy-8-methyl-2-[4-(1-methylethyl)-2-thiazolyl]-4-quinolinol (7MMQ) is a synthetic quinoline derivative. It has anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) activity and has been shown to inhibit HCV RNA replication in cell culture. 7MMQ was synthesized by bromination of 2,3,5,6-tetrachloroquinoline followed by the Friedel-Crafts reaction with 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5,2,4,-tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene. The hydrolysis of the ester group was then performed to yield the desired product. 7MMQ is achiral and can be used as an intermediate for other compounds.
